The countdown to the NFL pre-season is under way. Yes I will accept even pre-season football at this point. The rookies have already been in camp but the Charger’s Vets report to camp July 30th as the full roster gets ready for another season. The Chargers are set to kick off the pre-season at Qualcom Stadium August 14th against the Chicago Bears. As the Vets roll into camp QB Phillip Rivers sports his new hair cut. (See it on the next page)

We are into the second half of the Major League Baseball season and at this point in time (Tue. July 20th) the Angels are 5 games behind the Texas Rangers and 7.5 games out of a wildcard playoff bid. It doesn’t look good for the Angels to even make the playoffs right now.

‘Tis the season for beaches, bathing suits and pool-side parties. But is it the time of the season for great sports? That’s a big fat NO! This time of year is the definitive definition of the word, “off-season” because there is no basketball, there is no football, Nascar is off until August. So what is a sports fan to do with him or her self during this lull in the sports cycle? Sure baseball is in full swing but I’m into sports that are a bit more exciting. Heck, tiddly-winks is more exciting than baseball and don’t even get me started on golf. The beginning of the NFL season can’t come soon enough. Sorry baseball fans but baseball is a snoozer unless you are at the game eating hot dogs and popcorn while consuming massive 12 dollar beers. So what do you do in the off-season? I’ll tell you, the beach! Lots more excitement there especially if you like people watching. Okay, girl watching. So the beach is my new off-season sport until the NFL starts. I’ll even watch pre-season football games when the time comes just to get some good sports back in my life.
I hate this time of the year when there is a lull in good sports action but I guess absence makes the heart grow fonder and that is certainly the case because I can’t wait until the real sports season starts.

Up to this point, the American League has won the last 13 all-star games. Baseball’s all-star game is still the most competitive of all the major sports. Two questions on our poll. 1) Which league is better, the American or National League? 2) Should the all-star game decide which league has home field advantage in the World Series?

Things were starting to HEAT up over the weekend as reports came in that Derek Fisher was talking with Miami about the possibility of joining Wade, Bosh and James to play for the Heat.
Thank goodness “The Decision” is over and we can all go back to enjoying the summer. LeBron James has announced that he will join his buddies in South Beach to play for the Miami Heat. Actually South Beach is not where the Heat play but it is the place where they party. Known as the party capital of the state and possibly the party capital of the nation, you have to wonder how much of a distraction it will be for these young players to concentrate on the task at hand namely winning an NBA championship. However lets put all that aside and discuss what you think of LeBron’s decision.

Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have announced that they will play together in South Beach for the Miami Heat. Does this make the Miami Heat instant contenders for an NBA Championship? Will Lebron James join them?

The Lakers are World Champions but could they be even better with a few off season moves? Some people think the Lakers should trade Bynum and Odom for Chris Bosh. I personally don’t think we trade Bynum or Odom simply because Bosh plays a lot like Gasol so we have that covered and we need Bynum’s bulk inside. Everyone says Bynum is always hurt, well so is Chris Bosh. As far as Lamar goes, he did not have a great playoff run but his rebounding and intangibles make him a valuable player. The Lakers have signed former Clipper point guard Steve Blake which means Jordan Farmar is most likely gone and it gives them leverage over Shannon Brown who wants to stay with the Lakers but wants more money. So you tell me, what is the best move for the Lakers to make in the off-season? Or should they make no changes to a team that isn’t broken.

Phil Jackson will be back as the Lakers coach next year and there is only one word that comes to mind other than, “YEAH!”more
